WiFCERM corporate affiliate membership is free and open to all organisations who work in, or support, the FCERM sector, who want to become recognised partners in contributing to gender equality across the FCERM sector. We’re shining a light on our corporate affiliate members, and this month we hear from Coastal Partners:

Coastal Partners is a partnership formed of five councils, and we lead on coastal issues across 246km of Hampshire and West Sussex’s coastline. Founded in 2012, we carry out many functions that help to protect thousands of homes, businesses, wildlife and infrastructure. Our diverse work includes managing flood and erosion risk, planning and designing new coastal defence schemes, inspecting and maintaining existing defences and working towards a flood resilient future. In addition to our core coastal engineering services, we have also evolved our expertise into habitat and environmental matters, consenting (Planning, EIA and heritage), geomatics, funding, research and data analysis. It is our vision to manage coastlines, improve community resilience and enhance the natural environment.
It was important to Coastal Partners to become an affiliated member of Women in FCERM. There are many invisible (and visible!) barriers to women progressing and thriving in careers across all sectors but particularly so in those that are typically more male-dominated. Whilst we are proud to have an even split of male to female employees here, it’s important to recognise these barriers, which include women-specific health issues, societal expectations, gender bias and gaps in authority and pay. We want to ensure that our policies, behaviours and decisions all help break these barriers and contribute to gender equality in our sector and beyond.
